PM announces several schemes & projects for Bundelkhand

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has announced several schemes and projects worth thousands of crore of rupees for the development the backward Bundelkhand region in Uttar Pradesh. Expressing the Centre's commitment to the progress of the region, he said he has already released 1800 crore rupees to the both UP and MP state governments during last two financial years for different schemes for this region.Addressing a mammoth rally at Banda in Bundelkhand region today he said centre had announced an economic package of more than 7200 crore rupees in 2009. But, he alleged that both the state governments were not active in spending the grants for the development of Bundelkhand. He said under special package more than 7200 crore rupees would be spend during three financial years.The Prime Minister also announced a special package a scheme of 200 crore rupees will also be implemented in this region to provide proper drinking water to common men. He announced that a bill will be brought in next parliament session for setting up a central agricultural university at Jhansi. He said congress leader Rahul Gandhi has demanded for the university. Dr. Singh also announced that the government has approved a scheme for upgradation of Jhansi medical college during third phase of Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna.Earlier addressing the rally congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that anomalies have been seen in preparation of BPL lists in Uttar Pradesh. He said several eligible families are missing from the present lists. He alleged that Uttar Pradesh government was not doing any thing to rectify the anomalies. He demanded if state government was not willing to do any then centre should take initiatives. He also demanded for implementation of RIGHT TO FOOD to save people from dying due to lack of food grains.AIR correspondent reports that people from most of the seven districts of Bundelkhand region in Uttar Pradesh participated in the rally. Political observers say that congress has kicked off its election campaign for next assembly elections in the state with this mammoth rally.
