In Uttarakhand, the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh along with Chief Minister of the state, Vijay Bahuguna conducted ariel survey of the flood affected areas including badly affected Kedar Valley in Rudra Prayag district. Chief Minister Bahuguna also conducted survey of some parts of affected areas before joining the Prime Minister. Several senior officers from the the Centre have already reached Dehradun to access the damage due to flood, cloud bursting and other rain related incidents. Releif and rescue operations on large scale continue in the flood and landslides affected areas in the State. Army has set up several relief camps in the affected areas and above 7 thousand Jawans from Army are roped into the relief operation for the stranded devotees and local residents. As per estimates, above 50 thousands people are stranded at several places in the flood affected areas including in the routes of four Shrines of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. A large number of Sikh devotees are also stranded in the Hem Kund Sahib.
AIR Correspondent reports, as per official information received, 69 deaths are reported in flood related incidents. Rudraprayag district is the worst affected. The Kedarnath shrine and Rambara in Rudraprayag district, bore the brunt of the torrential rains. Kailash Mansarover yatra has been halted near Bundi in Pithoragarh district. With the improvement in weather in Uttarakhand, relief and rescue work has been expedited. Roads blocked by landslides are being opened up gradually for movement of vehicles in several affected areas. 22 Army and private helicopters have been deployed to carry out relief and rescue work in full swing. The Jawans of Indian Army, ITBP and NDRF are carrying out rescue and relief work on war footing.
