Pliskova beats Sara Sorribes Tormo

In Tennis, Karolina Pliskova of Czech republic beat Sara Sorribes Tormo of Spain 6-2,6-0 in round one of the Australian Open in Melbourne today. In an another match Ekaterina Makarova of Russia defeats her country mate Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-0 4-6 6-1. The Australian Open kicked off in Melbourne yesterday as players struggled in hot conditions with temperatures topping 32 degree Celsius or 90 degree Fahrenheit. World number one Andy Murray, Key Nishikori, Marin Cilic and the oldest player in women's draw at 36, Venus Williams, moved into the second round of the tournament along with China's Zhang Shuai. World number four Simona Halep of Romania, rated as the fastest player, however made a shock first round exit after losing to an unseeded American Shelby Rogers, 3-6, 1-6.There are no Indian players in the Singles categories. The Doubles are, however, featuring the participation of Sania Mirza, Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna. Sania and her Czech team-mate Barbora Strycova are seeded fourth, while Paes and his Brazilian partner Andre Sa are unseeded. Rohan Bopanna is pairing with Uruguay's Pablo Cuevas. The Indian pair of Divij Sharan and Purav Raja will also be seen in action in the Doubles main draw.
