Union Minister of state for Information and Broadcasting Mr Choudhury Mohan Jatua today declared open the platinum jubilee celebrations of Assamese cinema at the ongoing 40th International film festival at Panaji. Noted Actor and chairman of the National Film Development Corporation Om Puri was the guest of the honour at the function, attended by versatile film personalities from the Assamese cinema. The first Assamese film Joymoti which had a theatrical release in 1935 was screened after the opening event. A short film documenting the journey of Assamese cinema was also shown.<br/><br/>Five films of noted filmmakers from assam will be screened at the ongoing festival. Celebrated Filmmaker from the state, Jahnu barua speaking to air correspondent covering the festival lamented on the shrinking market for regional cinema and said the government should step in to ensure that the regional cinema has an pan India audience.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent adds that Spoof Cinema section mocking at the popular genre of films has been a big hit with the film enthusiasts attending the festival. Malegoan ke Sholay, Malegoan Ke Shaan, Malegoan ka Superman, have been made by a group of film buffs on a shoestring budget of just one lakh. Its ironical that a film on the Making of Malegoan ka Superman produced by a Canadian film company, had been made with a budget of over 50 lakhs. This film also found a place in the ongoing IFFI.<br/>
