Planning Commission meeting to review 11th plan deferred

The meeting of the full Planning Commission to consider and approve the Mid-Term Review of the 11th Plan (2007-12) has been deferred to the 23rd of this month. The meeting was earlier scheduled for tomorrow.

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, also the Chairman of the Planning Commission, will preside over the meeting which among others will also be attended by key Finance ministers and full-time members of the Commission. The meeting, according to officials, will deliberate on the Mid-Term Review of the 11th Plan and decide on corrective action to boost economic growth. Our correspondent reports, the performance of the 11th Plan, which aimed at achieving a growth rate of 9 per cent, was hit by the global financial meltdown. As a result of the impact of the crisis, the growth rate during 2008-09 dropped to 6.7 per cent from over nine per cent during the three preceding years.

The mid term review document is also likely to moderate the growth target for the 11th Plan.
