Minister of Coal, Power and New and Renewable Energy, Piyush Goyal has said that the focus of the government is to double the coal production to one billion tonnes by 2019. Speaking at the 5th Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) National Meet in New Delhi today, Mr Goyal said that his Ministry has innovative plans to make India a solar power in the years to come. He said, coal output has gone up by 10.2 per cent between June and December since the Narendra Modi government came to power this year. The Minister said that electricity production has also risen by 11.3 per cent in the last six months. He said, efforts are being made to engage with all stakeholders to make India a power surplus nation.Mr Goyal also added that inflation has also been brought down to reasonable levels.
