Piracy arrested in Indian Ocean : Admiral Verma

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Nirmal Verma today said that piracy has been arrested in the Indian Ocean region and several assets are being added to the Armory of Indian Navy to tackle any situation at the sea. Addressing his last press conference in New Delhi today Admiral Verma said that piracy had also spread in East Arabian Sea from horn of African to Indian waters in 2009-10. He asserted that over the past one year not a single incident of piracy has been reported within 300 nautical miles of Indian waters.
Talking of terrorism at sea he said that it is imperative for the Navy to remain open for uncertainties. He said that talks are on between India and Pakistan to follow some protocols to prevent incidents at sea. On China he said that there is a need to engage in discussion. As far as South China Sea is concerned, he said India has no plans to deploy its naval assets there . Admiral Verma is superannuating on the 31st of this month. He joined as Chief of Naval staff in 2009. Vice Admiral D.K.Joshi will take over as the next Chief of Naval staff.
