In Uttar Pradesh bye polls, voting took place peacefully today in Pipraich assembly constituency of Gorakhpur district. AIR correspondent reports that around 49% polling has been recorded. Polling was hampered at half a dozen places during the day due to faulty electronic voting machines which were replaced later. No untoward incident has been reported from any part of the constituency. The Samajwadi Party, Bhartiya Janata Party and 11 independent candidates were in the fray. AIR Gorakhpur correspondent reports, the Congress and ruling BSP have not fielded their candidates. The election was necessitated after death of sitting BSP MLA Jamuna Nishad.
