A young girl from a remote tea garden in Assam will be among India's 'torch bearer' at the London Olympics.UNI reports that Pinky Karmakar, a class X student of Borbaruah area in Dibruagrh district, will represent India among 20 countries at the Olympic torch relay in Nottinghamshire on June 28. Pinky has already left for EnglandPinky's father is a painter and her mother a tea-leaf plucker in a tea garden.Her work with a UNICEF programme at her village school opened destiny's doors for the 17-year-old Pinky.Pinky runs a daily sports programme at her school and turns a teacher for about 40 women, including her mother,in the evening.She has also been actively associated with programmes that create awareness about child marriage, adult literacyand alcoholism.Pinky is part of the International Inspiration Programme, sports legacy project of London 2012, run inpartnership with UK Sport, Unicef and the British Council.The programme aims to 'reach young people all around the world and connect them to the inspirational power of theGames so they are inspired to choose sport'.
