Asian Games gold medallist Pinki Pramanik, who walked out of prison on Wednesday after spending 26 days in custody in Dum Dum Central Jail on charges of rape, has alleged harassment by police. The retired middle-distance runner said the police had tied her hands and legs and forcibly conducted gender determination test on her. Pinki was released from jail after a Barasat court gave here bail on Tuesday. She was arrested on the 14th of last month after she was accused of being a male by her live-in-partner, a 30 year old estranged woman who also alleged that she was raped by Pramanik. On a PIL ,the Calcutta High Court directed the West Bengal Government on July 6 to file an affidavit within two weeks on the progress of investigation. The West Bengal Human Rights Commission has also stepped in and directed the authorities to inquire into the allegations of torture on the athlete in police and jail custody. Meanwhile, around 20 former sportspersons today held a procession in Kolkata demanding justice for Pinki Pramanik.
