Home Secretary G.K.Pilllai has described as totally unfounded and false reports that he is leaking the interceptions of the tapes of telephone interceptions of corporate lobbyist Neera Radia. He said that he has neither heard nor seen the tapes. In a clarification issued in New Delhi today Pillai said that neither he nor the Home Ministry had any access or have any access to any tapes concerning the interceptions of Radia. Pillai said that his interview to the Wall Street Journal has been misunderstood and quoted out of context. He said that he had only stated that interception of telephone calls have been authorised by the Home Ministry on account of allegations concerning tax evasion and hawala and no tapes concerning these had appeared in the press. Mr. Pillai's clarification came after some reports appeared in India Today and OPEN Magazine in this regard.
