In Uttar Pradesh, in the midst of chilling cold weather, the pilgrims have been reaching the confluence of Ganga and Yamuna since Tuesday evening to take holy dip in Sangam. The Makar Sankraniti is being celebrated on Wednesday and for this auspicious bathing is also twining with Mauni Amawasya on 15th January, the very next day. The solar eclipse will also be seen on 15th January. This made astrologically and ritually both the bathing very important for devotees.
