Pilgrimage to Amarnath suspended due to heavy rains

The pilgrimage to Amarnath cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalyas has been suspended due to slippery track following heavy rains since last evening. A yatra control room official at Pahalgam said that that no devotee was allowed from Nunwan base camp this morning. He said similarly the yatris, who had stayed the night at different halting station on this traditional track have also been advised to continue at their places. The official said that weather continues to be inclement in the entire belt. So far, more than 4.2 lakh pilgrims have had darshan of the self made ice-Shivlingam in the cave shrine since the commencement of the two-month-long pilgrimage from the 1st of last month.
