In Manipur, the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Imphal organised a one day media workshop Vartalap on improving government information dissemination to media while sensitizing them on various schemes and projects.<br />'' &nbsp;<br />'' The workshop was inaugurated by Minister of State for External Affairs and Education Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan. Around forty journalists based in Imphal attended the workshop.<br />'' <br />'' Minister Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan said the media plays a crucial role for dissemination of information regarding important government schemes. He said media being a powerful tool, journalists should share in depth information while disseminating about the schemes and projects.<br />'' The Minister said that the media has a key role in dissemination of various flagship programmes and welfare schemes and appealed to the journalists to try their best to give a true picture of the implementation of the schemes on the ground. The feedback of the people on these schemes also needs to be taken and the media will act as an eye opener to the government as well.<br />'' &nbsp;<br />'' He elaborated that social media has taken over everything but what is required is impartiality while reporting. He further said that there are many challenges in reporting at ground level which can be faced through responsible journalism.<br />'' &nbsp;<br />''The Additional DG, PIB Imphal B. Narayanan said that the main objective of the workshop is to sensitize media on various schemes and projects of the government of India being implemented in the state. Journalists have to play a bigger role in busting fake news spreading through mainly social media like fire. They have to verify the facts before presenting the report to the masses, Narayanan said, adding that Vartalap is a medium to set up bridges between government and media in order to reach out to the people at grassroots.
