<br/>Severe Cyclonic storm 'Phyan' crossed the north Maharashtra coast last evening sparing Mumbai and South Gujarat. The cyclonic system has, however, moved north-eastwards.<br/><br/>According to the Met Department, the cyclone is expected to weaken soon. It has been named by Myanmar and it comes from the Burmese word, 'Phyan' which means a "cherry which has fallen off a tree."<br/><br/>The Met Department has withdrawn the cyclone warning from Gujarat and Goa. AIR Mumbai correspondent reports that the weather bureau has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rains at isolated places in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts over the next 24 hours.<br/><br/>AIR Ahmedabad Correspondent reports the district administration in South Gujarat has been asked to remain alert following heavy rainfall warning with stormy wind. The Chief Minister Narendra Modi had reviewed the situation. Most of the fishing boats which ventured into sea have been reported safe.<br/><br/>The Centre put the National Disaster Response Force, NDRF batallions on alert in Gujrat and Maharastra in the wake of the heavy rains caused by the Cyclonic depression. The Ministry of Defence has also been alerted.<br/>
