Phillip Hughes dies after severe head injury

Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes, who had suffered a severe head injury due to a bouncer during a match has died. Hughes was in coma for three days following the injury sustained while playing in a Sheffield Shield game in Sydney. He was 25.Hughes needed emergency surgery to relieve pressure on his brain after being struck on the head by a ball during a domestic match on Tuesday at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He was fighting for life at Sydney's St. Vincent's Hospital.The cricket fraternity across the world today reacted with shock and sadness at the sad demise of Phil Hughes. The BCCI led the Indian cricket fraternity in condoled the early demise of Hughes, who was described as true gentleman on the field. Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar expressed his sympathy for Hughes' family on the shocking news. India's vice-captain Virat Kohli, who will lead the side in the first Test against Australia in Brisbane in the absence of regular skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, termed it as a horrible day for the game of cricket. Another Indian batsman Rohit Sharma had words of sympathy for Sean Abott, whose bouncer hit Hughes leading to the left-hander's death.Union Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today condoled the death of Phillip Hughes, saying the Australian cricketer had a lot to offer to world cricket. He said Hughes' untimely death following an unexpected accident on the field has come as a shock to every sports lover across the world. The beauty of sports is the display of grit and determination of the players and at 25, Hughes had a lot to offer to the world of cricket, Sonowal said in his condolence message.
