In Philippines, House of Representatives has passed a controversial bill that restores the death penalty in the country. The House approved a Bill, which seeks to reimpose capital punishment on eight drug-related offenses with either life imprisonment or death. <br/><br/>The bill will be transmitted to the Senate for deliberations by the senators. The bill becomes into law when President Rodrigo Duterte finally signs it. Duterte who assumed the presidency in June last year, has vigorously pushed for the reimposition of the capital punishment law, saying it is an effective deterrent against heinous crimes.<br/>The Death Penalty was first abolished in 1987, but reimposed in 1993. Again in 1999, then President Joseph Estrada issued a de facto moratorium on executions to abolish the death penalty.
