Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Chairman Hemant Contractor today said the total number of Subscribers to National Pension System has reached 1.18 crore. Addressing media in New Delhi, the chairman said that launch of online platform, e-NPS and announcement of additional tax benefit on investment of Rs 50,000 in NPS over and above 1.5 lakh, has encouraged people to join NPS including corporate sector. Mr. Contractor said that PFRDA has requested government to extend the co-contributory scheme under Atal Pension Yojana for one more year. Under APY, the government contributes 50% of the subscriber's contribution, up to Rs 1,000 per annum, for a period of five years to those who joined the scheme before stipulated date. Currently 31st March of this year is the last date to get benefits of the co-contributory scheme.
