Petrol prices have been slashed by 1.85 rupees a litre, across the country. Announcing this on Tuesday, Oil Marketing Companies said that they are passing on 1.85 rupees a litre that they gained from a fall in global oil prices and a marginal appreciation in rupee value.This is the first reduction in 33 months. The reduction comes days after state-owned oil companies raised petrol prices by a steep 1.80 rupees per litre. With this, petrol in the national capital will cost 66.42 rupees per litre as against 68.64 rupees a litre now.The decrease in Delhi comes to 2.22 rupees per litre, adding a fresh cut of 20 per cent in local sales tax. While the reduction in Mumbai is 2.34 rupees per liter, in Kolkata, it is 2.31 rupees and the price cut in Chennai will be 2.35 rupees per litre.
