In Kenya, more than 100 people were killed today after a petrol pipeline explosion and fire in a slum area in the capital Nairobi. According to a Kenyan Pipeline Company official, the explosion occurred when some slum residents rushed to scoop the spilled oil while smoking, before firefighters rushed to the scene. The official said one of their pipeline burst near the fuel depot off Kunga Lunga Road in industrial area, causing the oil spill which went undetected for hours as it spilled to nearby Sinai slum. She said the pipeline exploded when residents who were smoking rushed to fetch the oil causing injuries.
