People starts returning homes in Philippines, threat of tsunami subsided

In the Philippines, more than 55,000 are returning to their homes along the eastern coast as the threat of a tsunami from Japan's devastating quake subsided. The government yesterday ordered the country's Pacific seaboard cleared of people after the massive earthquake unleashed tsunamis on Japan's east coast and triggered a Pacific-wide alert. Executive director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council said, residents are now allowed to return home after spending the night at temporary shelters inland. He said the current trend of observed wave heights suggests that the threat of a hazardous tsunami has passed.
