People of Andaman and Nicobar Islands will be the first to receive RIC

People of Andaman and Nicobar Islands will be the first to receive the Resident Identity Smart card, RIC under the National Population Register, NPR scheme. Home Minister P Chidambaram will distribute the first batch of the RIC smart cards at the Porthrapur village in Andaman and Nicobar Islands tomorrow.

According to an official release, the RIC cards will be distributed to all persons above the age of 18 residing in the nine maritime states and four union territories under the National Population Register, NPR scheme.

The NPR scheme is aimed to provide valid identity to all people in these areas to strengthen the security along the country's coastline.

The scheme with an estimated cost of over 215 crore rupees will cover more than three thousand three hundred and thirty coastal villages across the country.
