Besides glaciers, snowfall being the main source of water for drinking and irrigation purposes in Leh -Ladakh, the people especially farmers and players of winter sports like ice hockey and ice skating are happy with the fresh snowfall. It has not only intensified the cold wave conditions in the region but also increased the problems being faced by general public.<br/><br/>Most of the pipes of kitchens, bathrooms and flush latrines are blocked. Due to snowbound pastures, there is lack of green fodder for livestock. People have to content themselves with dry vegetables fruits and pulses as there is lack of fresh fruits and vegetables in the market. Roads, streets and ways are slippery leading to risk of accidents and ice is not being removed fast.<br/><br/>Heaps of snow are seen in the market. People are forced to be in their houses affecting their daily activities and making themselves warm with heating equipments like Bukharies. Power generation has also been affected badly due to cold as canals of hydel projects freezed and power deparment is supplying power through diesel generator sets.
