People gather to pay last respects to Munde in native town-Parli, Maharashtra

Union Minister and BJP's most prominent grassroot-level leader Gopinath Munde's mortal remains reached his native town of Parli where the cremation will take place after 2 pm.

A number of people have gathered to pay their last respects to the leader at the grounds of the Vaijnath Sugar Factory in Beed where Munde will be cremated.

Munde's body has been kept for people to pay homage at Parli. His daughter Pankaja, a BJP MLA, is expected to perform the last rites.

Senior BJP leaders LK Advani, Rajnath Singh, Venkaiah Naidu and Harsh Vardhan are likely to attend the funeral.

Senior Maharashtra leaders Udhhav Thackrey, R R Patil and Chaggan Bhujbal left Mumbai for Munde's native place. BJP leaders Smriti Irani and Ananth Kumar also left for Parli to attend the funeral.

Earlier this morning, Munde’s mortal remains were flown from Mumbai to Parli via Latur.

Union Rural Development Minister Gopinath Munde died of multiple injuries and cardiac arrest following a road accident in Delhi, yesterday morning.
