Even as the auto rickshaw strike ended this afternoon in Mumbai after the hike in fare prices, the decision on the taxi fare is still pending. Due to which not many taxis are seen on the roads causing inconvenience to the people in Mumbai.<br/><br/>Maharashtra Transport Minister, Radha Krishna Vikhe Patil has asserted that the demand for taxi fare hike is completely illegal and the decision on the fare hike will be taken in a couple of days after a meeting with the MMRTA authorities and taxi unions.<br/><br/>A.Quadros, General Secretary, Mumbai Taximen’s Union claimed that the taxi strike has been called off and taxis are back on roads. However Mumbaikars are still struggling as hardly any taxis could be seen on the roads. Around 80,000 taxis were stranded today across the metro.<br/><br/>Earlier in the afternoon, autorickshaw drivers in Mumbai called-off their strike after the Maharashtra Government decided to hike the auto fares. The decision was taken after the meeting with the state transport officials. The autorickshaw fares have been increased by 2 rupees in Mumbai and Thane.<br/><br/>The minimum fare for autorickshaws has been increased from Rs. 9 to Rs. 11 in Mumbai and Thane. Subsequently, the charge per km has been increased by 1 rupee 50 paise. The fares will be applicable from this Thursday. Earlier in the day close to one lakh autos were not available to the city.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, the taxi union is demanding for fare hike as the CNG prices have been raised in the state.<br/><br/>Earlier in the day, due to the auto and taxi strike, thousands of Mumbaikars had a tough time during morning rush hour. The strike forced thousands of commuters to opt for the city’s already stretched bus and train services.
