Peaceful voting on for Jangipur Parl by-election

In West Bengal, peaceful voting is on for for Jangipur Parliamentary by-election. The state Chief Electoral Officer told AIR that over 25 per cent polling was recorded in first four hour of voting. The polling is by and large peaceful and no major untoward incident has so far been reported. AIR correspondent Arijit Chakraborty reports that altogether nine Electronic Voting Machines were replaced for technical snag. Boycott of voters were also reported from 12 polling booths on local issues. Besides State Police, ten Companies of Central Police Force have been deployed to ensure free and fair polling. Indo-Bangladesh border along Murshidabad district of West Bengal has been sealed to prevent entry of outsiders. By-election is necessitated after Mr. Pranab Mukherjee got elected as President of the country. The counting of votes will be taken up on Saturday.
