Peaceful voting for four Lok Sabha and five Assembly by-election is in progress. The parliamentary seats are Maharajgang in Bihar, Howrah in West Bengal, Porbander and Banaskantha in Gujarat.
Polling began at 7 am and will continue till 4 p.m. in naxal affected areas in Bihar while at rest of the places it will continue till 6 p.m. In Howrah constituency, polling will continue till 4.30 P.M. Election Commission has increased the polling time from 7am to 6pm in Gujarat following severe heat wave and drought conditions in the state.
In Bihar, 35 percent polling has been reported till 1 PM in Maharajganj Lok Sabha by-polls. 29 companies of Central Para Military forces and Bihar Military Police have been deployed to ensure free and fair polling. A total of 302 polling booths have been declared sensitive.
The polling, which began at 7 am, will end at 6 p.m. except in Naxal affected areas where it will end at 4 p.m. Over 14 lakh 98 thousand voters are eligible to exercise their franchise. Six candidates are in the fray.
In Howrah constituency of West Bengal, over 32 percent polling is reported till noon. Voting is going on in over 1800 polling booths. 35 companies of Central Para Military forces are guarding these booths which are categorized as sensitive.
In Gujarat, polling for four Assembly seats of Jetpur, Dhoraji, Limdi and Morva Hadaf are also in progress. Ruling BJP and opposition Congress have straight fight on all the seats.
More than 33 lakh voters are eligible to use their franchise in today’s polling. Our Ahmedabad Correspondent reports, low to moderate turnout has been reported in all six constituencies during the morning hours.Counting of votes will be taken up on 5th of this month.
In Uttar Pradesh, 33 percent pooling has been recorded till 1 PM. for Handia assembly seat by-election in Allahabad district.
Allahabad correspodnent reports that polling is by and large peaceful and no untoward incident is reported from any party of the constituency. Tight security arrangements are made to ensure free and fair poll. Counting of votes will take place on June 5.
