Peaceful polling on for one LS, 31 assembly by elections in seven states

Polling for one Lok Sabha and 31 Assembly seats spread across seven states is in progress peacefully amid tight security. Congress' politician-turned-actor Raj Babbar is pitched against SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav's daughter-in- law Dimple in the Firozabad Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh, where 35 percent voting has been recorded so far. Our Lucknow correspondent reports more than 27 percent voters have exercised their franchise for 11 assembly constituencies during first five hours of voting.In West Bengal, peaceful voting is on for bye election in ten assembly seats in the state. Around 50 per cent voters have cast their franchise in first four hours of polling. In Kerala, good voter turnout has been reported in Kannur, Ernakulam and Alappuzha assembly constituencies. Kannur reported 51 per cent polling, whereas Ernakulam registered 39 per cent. In Alappuzha 37 per cent of the electorate have cast their votes.Polling is also in progress in the two assembly constituencies of Rohru and Jawali in Himachal Pradesh, where 35 percent voters have exercised their frenchise.In Rajasthan, for Toda Bhim and Salumber constituencies about 30 percent voters cast their votes till 1 pm. In Assam, polling for bye-elections to the Dhekiajuli and South Salmara Assembly constituencies that began at 7.00 this morning, over 22 per cent voters have cast their ballots till reports last came in.
