In Nepal, CPN (UML) Chairman and Prime Minister-elect Jhalanath Khanal on Friday said that his priority will be to ensure completion of the peace process and writing of the new constitution within the stipulated time. Talking to newsmen this morning following his election to the post of Prime Minister in parliament last evening, Khanal said his priority will also be to improve the security environment and take forward the development process. Prime Minister-elect Khanal is likely to be sworn-in on Sunday after the return of President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav from his India tour. He said he is in favour of forming a small cabinet in consultation with his allies. Referring to the telephonic congratulation he received from Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Nepal's Prime Minister-elect Khanal said, he will make efforts to further improve bilateral ties with its two close neighbours- India and China. He said the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal has also come to meet him this morning to congratulate on his election. AIR Kathmandu Correspondent reports that the Nepali Congress, Madhesh Janadhikar Forum (Loktantrik) and Rashtra Prajatantra Party have decided to stay in the opposition.
