Peace between Israel and Palestinians is critical to Israel's security: Obama

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has said that the resumption of Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations depends on the reference to the negotiations process. In a statement issued by Palestine news agency, WAFA after the tripartite meeting between Abbas, U.S. President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu at New York last night, he said that he confirmed his positions and commitment to the Road Map and its implementation. He demanded that the Israeli side fulfill its commitments on settlements, including on natural growth. Israeli President Netanyahu told reporters after the summit said that he agreed with Abbas during the meeting that peace talks should be relaunched as soon as possible. Earlier, during much awaited three way meeting, U.S. President Barak Obama told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas that all must take risks for peace. U.S. envoy George Mitchell said in a press conference after the meeting that Obama told Israeli and Palestinian leaders that peace between Israel and the Palestinians is critical to Israel's security and is necessary for Palestinians to realize their aspirations.
