The database of beneficiaries under the Public Distribution System, PDS, across the country is to be completed by March next year. The computerisation of the supply-chain management is also scheduled to be completed by October, 2013. This information was given by the Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Prof. K.V. Thomas in the Lok Sabha today. In a written reply, he said all States and Union Territories have been requested to computerise data regarding the Targeted Public Distribution System, TPDS. A scheme to provide financial aid to them has been approved for implementation during the 12th Five Year Plan on cost-sharing basis. Also, a transparency portal and grievance redressal mechanism are to be set up during this period, he said.
