Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti will meet Jammu and & Kashmir Governor N N Vohra over the issue of government formation in the state, even as her father and party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed continued consultations within the party.
The Governor on Friday invited Mehbooba Mufti and BJP state unit president Jugal Kishore Sharma for separate meetings to hold discussions on formation of government in the State. The Assembly elections threw up a hung verdict with PDP emerging as the single-largest party with 28 seats in the 87-member lower house. BJP is the second-largest party with 25 seats followed by National Conference at 15 and Congress with 12.
Smaller parties and independents won seven seats. AIR Correspondent reports that so far no single party, or combination of parties, have staked a claim for formation of the government. However, all eyes are focused on today’s meeting between PDP President Mehboba Mufti and Governor N.N.Vohra as the meeting is expected to clear some air about the formation of the Government.
Meanwhile, in another step towards formation of new Government , the State Law Department yesterday constituted 12th Legislative Assembly with 87 newly elected MLAs superseding 11th Assembly, which was scheduled to complete its term on January 20, 2015. However, the new MLAs will take oath only after the next Government is formed and Governor NN Vohra appoints Pro-tem Speaker to administer oath to the MLAs.
