PDP hints at tie up with BJP for govt formation in J&K

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti today called on Jammu & Kashmir Governor NN Vohra at Raj Bhawan in Jammu and discussed the issue of Government formation with him. Later taking to media persons, Mehbooba said that her meeting with Mr. Vohra was informal in the wake a “decisive but divided mandate” thrown up by the recent Assembly polls. However, the PDP leader gave hint that her party is not averse to joining hands with BJP and invoked Atal Bihari Vajpayee saying it is not possible till Vajpayeeji's political process vis-a-vis Jammu and Kashmir is taken forward. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's “dream” of development and addressing the problem of unemployment in Jammu & Kashmir, the PDP leader said there cannot be “development till there is peace on the ground”.

Mehbooba said that priority of PDP is not to cobble up a majority for the sake of forming a government adding he new government should respect the mandate of the people. She said that PDP has got “majority” in Kashmir valley while BJP has got “majority” in Jammu region and all this needs to be taken into consideration while the formation of the New Government. Meanwhile, with positive signs emerging from PDP over government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, BJP general Secretary Ram Madhav said that BJP appreciates Mehbooba Mufti's gesture but said that it is awaiting the formal initiation of dialogue with it.

National Conference spokesman Junaid Matto has questioned the delaying tactics of the Peoples Democratic Party in formation of the Government . He said that PDP should come forward and form the Government as National Conference and Congress have offered unconditional support to PDP for the formation of the Government. In another development , three MLAs elected in the recently held elections M.Y.Tarigami, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen and Engineer Abdul Rashid have reiterated their firm support to any non-BJP alliance.
