PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti sworn in as 1st woman CM of J&K

PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti took oath as the first woman Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir today.<br/><br/>Governor NN Vohra administered oath to Ms Mufti along with her 22 member council of ministers at Raj Bhawan in the winter capital city of Jammu.<br/><br/>BJP leader Nirmal Singh took oath as Deputy Chief Minister of the state. Barring a few changes, majority of Ministers, who were the part of former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed led council of ministers, are repeated by both the parties.<br/><br/>The four new faces which have been introduced in Mehbooba's Council of Ministers are, two each from PDP and BJP.<br/><br/>Union Urban Development and Parliamentary Minister Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister of State in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh and Union MoS Harsimarat Kaur Badal were present on the occasion. National Conference leaders and former chief ministers of the state Dr. Farroq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah and BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav also attended the function. However the Congress boycotted the ceremony as a sign of protest against BJPs alleged political interference in congress ruled states.<br/><br/>Speaking to media persons the Union Ministers Venkaiah Naidu and Dr Jitendra Singh assured Mehbooba government of all possible assistance from the centre.<br/><br/>They expressed hope that the new government will move ahead on the path paved by former PDP-BJP government led by Chief Minister Mufti Mohd. Sayeed.<br/><br/>Describing the congress party's staying away from the swearing in ceremony as unfortunate, Mr. Naidu said, congress party's allegation against the BJP are false and baseless.<br/><br/>Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended best wishes to the new government in J&K. He expressed hope that it will fulfil dreams and aspirations of people of the state.<br/><br/>BJP President Amit Shah today asserted that his party's alliance with PDP in Jammu and Kashmir will take the state to newer heights. In a tweet, Mr. Shah congratulated the new Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also congratulated Ms Mehbooba.
