Press Council of India has formed a two-member committee to look into the issue of paid news and sponsored news items in journalism. The committee, which consists of veteran journalists Paranjoy Guha Thakurta and K Sreenivas Reddy, was formed recently after several journalists and politicians petitioned the Council over the issue. Journalists like Kuldeep Nayar had petitioned the Council and the Election Commission over how several publications have reportedly been involved in inserting 'sponsored news items' for promoting individuals and parties.
