The Centre has appointed former Director of Intelligence Bureau (IB) and a known North-east hand, Mr PC Haldar as the interlocutor for dialogue with three extremist outfits of Assam, Jewel Garlosa group of Dima Halam Daoga (DHD-J), United Peoples’ Democratic Solidarity, UPDS and pro-talk faction of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) in a significant policy initiative. <br/>The announcement to this effect was made by the Union Home Minister, Mr P Chidambaram in New Delhi Yesterday. Mr Chidambaram has said the DHD-J extremists after laying down arms had already moved its cadres into designated camps and the stage has been set for talks. AIR Silchar correspondent reports that Mr Haldar’s appointment has come at a time when the Centre has recently abolished the post of interlocutor in the Naga peace process which was held by Mr K Padmanabhaiah soon after the ceasefire pact was signed with the NSCN (I-M) in late 1990s. The Union Home Minister is currently handling the NSCN dialogue himself.<br/><br/>
