Pay due taxes, avail trade facilitation: Revenue Secy

Government today urged all tax assessees to make timely and correct payment of customs and central excise duties and service tax for continued trade facilitations. In a statement, Revenue Secretary, Sumit Bose said that the government is making all out efforts to felicitate trade and industry but a number of tax payers and assessees are not making timely payment of their due taxes.Stating that a number of central excise assessees continue to remove goods stealthily and some time even without registration, the Revenue Secretary said, government is keeping close watch on such elements. He advised them to come forward to pay all due taxes and avail benefits of reduced penalty. Mr Bose said that more than half of the service providers registered with the service tax department are not filing returns.Similarly, some importers and exporters are indulging in under invoicing in import and over invoicing in exports and mis-declaration of goods and thereby misusing exemptions and various incentive schemes to evade customs duty. Mr Bose warned that it is not difficult for the tax authorities to reach them who are evading tax payments.
