A Central Team, headed by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, has reached Gujarat as part of their visit to four monsoon-deficient states.
Besides Gujarat, these states are Maharashtra, Karnataka and Rajasthan.
The team, which includes Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh, will assess the impact of deficient rainfall and water scarcity in the state.
After his arrival in Ahmedabad on Thursday, Pawar said the team was in Gujarat to assess the impact of deficient rainfall in the state and would meet Chief Minister Narendra Modi and government officials to take stock of the situation.
He said after collecting data from all four rain deficient states, the Empowered Group of Ministers on Drought would take final decision as to what measures need to taken to tackle the crisis.
The EGoM has Finance, Food, Water and Rural Development Ministers as its members. It will also look at requests from the states for additional central funds.
