Union Minister Sharad Pawar today got a relief from the Supreme Court which set aside the Calcutta High Court order initiating criminal proceedings against him and five cricket Board officials in a case relating to expulsion of former Board chief Jagmohan Dalmiya.A Bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices Deepak Verma and B S Chauhan sent back the matter to the High Court asking it to examine afresh the complaint filed by Dalmiya against Pawar and others for allegedly filing false affidavit in his expulsion case.The apex court had on December 5, 2008, stayed the High Court order November 12, 2008 directing initiation of criminal proceedings against former Board president SharadPawar and others.Besides Pawar, others against whom criminal proceedings were sought are BCCI President Shashank Manohar, former secretary Niranjan Shah, Ratnakar Shetty, Chief Administrative Officer, N Srinivasan, Secretary and Chirayu Amin, junior Cricket Committee Chairman.Dalmiya, a former BCCI president, was expelled from the Board for alleged financial irregularities.The Pawar group had contended that the decision to initiate criminal proceedings on the allegation of filing forged affidavit was taken without hearing them.
