Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar today said that FDI in retail sector is in the interest of the farmers and consumers across the country. Mr Pawar was interacting with media reporters after inaugurating the seventh national conference on “Krishi Vigyan Kendras 2012” in the Punjab Agricultural University at Ludhiana. He said that the fears that the FDI in multi-brand retail would badly affect the interests of small shopkeepers and traders are unfounded.

Earlier during his inaugural address he lauded the efforts of Punjab Agricultural University and farmers of Punjab for increasing the agricultural production in the country.
