Union Agricultural Minister Mr.Sharad Pawar has assured all possible central assistance to tackle the draught situation following deficient rain fall in Gujarat. Talking to media persons at Gandhinagar, after meeting with Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, his senior cabinet colleagues and senior officials, Mr.Pawar said that demands of state Government would be discussed in the meeting of Empowered Group of Ministers on draught to be held at Delhi during the next week. Mr.Pawar, who is heading the Central team to review the draught situation in four states including Gujarat, appealed the State Government to revise its demand on the basis of short term and long term planning for the consideration of Empowered Group of Ministers on draught. Union Minister for Rural Development Mr.Jayram Ramesh, who is also part of the Central team headed by Mr.Pawar has said that Centre is considering to increase 100 days employment to 150 days per family under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act-MNREGA. He also assured to release Rs.425 crore on immediate basis for rural drinking water supply to the state. Our Ahmedabad correspondent reports that Gujarat Government has demanded total central assistance of Rs.14,673 crore as primary estimate for the planning of draught relief to meet the requirement of agriculture, drinking water, fodder and employment. The Central team was in Gujarat since last evening to review the draught situation following deficient rain fall. Gujarat has received only 22 percent of average rainfall during the current monsoon season so far. The team is schedule to visit Rajasthan after completion of its visit to Maharashtra and Karnataka in the first leg.
