Food and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has advocated digitisation of the targeted public distribution for plugging the loope holes in the system. Speaking at the conference of food secretaies of states in New Delhi today, he noted, extreme care needs to be taken to eliminate errors of inclusion and exclusion in the identification of the poor families. <br/><br/>Expressing apprehension that in the absence of such a system, efforts of the government will be negated for a credible public distribution, Mr.Pawar said computerisation of the entire network of targeted public distribution system operation is a must and should be<br/>completed in a time-bound manner. <br/><br/>The minister said, use of technologies such as global positioning systems for tracking of movement of PDS commodities, bar-coded ration coupons, digitisation of ration card database and smart cards would also help in bring changes in the system. <br/><br/>Mr. Pawar also called upon the States to establish an accessible mechanism for lodging of complaints from beneficiaries and responsive grievance redressal.
