A Pawan Hans helicopter with 23 people on board crashed into a gorge while landing in Tawang town of Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday. PRO Defence, Tezpur, Col. N.N. Joshi told AIR correspondent Manikant Thakur that the MI-172 had taken off from Guwahati at 1315 hrs for Tawang. The helicopter fell from a height of 15 metre into the gorge over a hilltop in Tawang. There is no immediate information on the fate of the passengers and crew. The helicopter had 18 passengers on board, including two children. The five-member crew included Captain Barun Gupta and Captain Tiwari. Col. Joshi said that the Army rescue team has reached the site of accident for rescue operations.
