Patrick Moon meets Nepal’s PM

In Nepal, the visiting US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Patrick Moon called on Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal in Kathmandu on Monday.<br/><br/>According to official sources, the meeting discussed the peace process, drafting of the constitution, human rights situation and issues of bilateral interests including the US assistance to Nepal's development.<br/><br/>Talking to newsmen after the meeting, the Moon said the United States wanted to see progress in completing the peace process and assured continued US assistance in this direction. He said the newly formed high level political mechanism will be helpful in ending the current political impasse.<br/><br/> Earlier on Monday, Moon met Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Sujata Koirala and discussed issues of bilateral interest.<br/><br/>Moon is also likely to meet Defence Minister Bidhya Bhandari, Army Chief General Chattra Man Singh Gurung, senior political leaders, human rights activists, and representatives of the international community during his stay in Nepal.<br/><br/>Before his appointment as the US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs in March last year, Moon had served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Afghanistan from June 2008 to March 2009. This is Mr. Moon’s first visit to Nepal.
