After the arrest of Shivsena MP Sanjay Raut for his alleged connection with Patra Chawl redevelopment scam, the plight of Patra Chawl residents has been underlined. The residents are demanding justice and they want MHADA, the redevelopment authority to address their problems including reimbursement of the monthly rent which was promised by the developer.<br />'' <br />'' According to the residents, their redevelopment project has restarted after the intervention of MHADA. But, the rent which has been given by MHADA is very less and they have been facing many difficulties for 14 years and nothing has changed in their lives. They have become helpless and seek justice as soon as possible.<br />'' <br />'' The scam which had come to the light in 2018 when Enforcement Directorate ED began the investigation. According to ED, during an investigation, it was revealed that M/s Guru Ashish Construction Pvt/ Ltd. was entrusted with the development of Patra Chawl project for the rehabilitation of 672 tenants in tenements on 47 acres of land belonging to Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority(MHADA) and a tripartite agreement was signed between society MHADA and M/s Guru Ashish Construction Pvt/ Ltd. According to the agreement the developer was supposed to provide the flats to 672 tenants and develop flats for MHADA and thereafter sell the remaining area. But, the Directors of Guru Ashish Construction Private Limited, Rakesh Kumar Wadhawan, Sarang Wadhavan, and Pravin Raut misled MHADA and managed to sell the FSI to nine developers and collected approximately 901.79 crore rupees without constructing the rehab for the displaced tenants and MHADA portion. <br />'' <br />'' The developers went ahead to launch another project called Meadows and took the booking amount of around 138 crore rupees from flat buyers. According to ED, this scam amounted to 1,039.79 crore rupees, and part of the amount was further transferred to close associates of the directors of the company. Pravin Raut, one of the directors of Guru Ashish received 100 crore rupees from HDIL and he diverted the amount further to various accounts of his close associates, family members, and his business entities. In 2010, part of the amount of 83 lakh rupees were received by Sanjay Raut's wife Varsha Raut from Madhuri Pravin Raut and used to purchase a flat at Dadar in Mumbai. But, after the initiation of ED investigation, Varsha Raut transferred 55 lakh rupees to Madhuri Raut. Varsha Raut also purchased eight plots in Alibaug in partnership with Swapna Patkar, wife of Sujit Patkar, who was a close associate of Sanjay Raut. ED has also found that cash payments were made in this deal. ED has already attached all the properties owned by Varsha Raut and arrested Pravin Raut earlier this year and Shivsena MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday.
