Paswan demands Bihar to be declared 'famine hit'

Lok Janshakti Party President Ramvilas Paswan today demanded that the entire state of Bihar be declared 'famine-hit' in the wake of recent drought situation. <br/>Talking to reporters in Patna, he said, the Bihar government should also bring a status paper on distribution of relief among the people. <br/>Accusing the Nitish Kumar government of having failed to reach relief to lakhs of people in 26 of the 38 districts declared 'calamity hit' in Bihar, Mr Paswan told reporters, the state government abjectly failed on this front. He said, while the state announced Rs. 340 crore subsidy on diesel, the amount distributed among farmers on this front remained a paltry Rs. 80 to 90 lakh. <br/>Mr Paswan also alleged that the state government failed to reach benefits of the crop insurance scheme, suspension of land rent and distribution of foodgrains for the people living below poverty line in the declared drought-hit districts. <br/>
