Past eight years were hottest since records began, UN confirms

The United Nations has confirmed that the past eight years were the hottest since records began, even with the cooling influence of a drawn-out La Nina weather pattern.
”
”According to six leading international temperature data sets consolidated by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), a UN agency, the past eight years were the warmest on record globally, fueled by ever-rising greenhouse gas concentrations and accumulated heat.
”
”The WMO said, last year, as the world faced a cascade of unprecedented natural disasters made more likely and deadly by climate change, the average global temperature was about 1.15 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. The WMO found, 2016 as the hottest year on record, followed by 2019 and 2020.
”
”The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and NASA have released similar 2022 global temperature figures. Head of the US space agency, Bill Nelson, described them as alarming.
”
”NOAA's Chief of climate monitoring, said, it is highly likely that there will be a year in this decade above 1.5 degrees Celsius. However, a sustained average of 1.5 degrees Celsius warming is not projected to occur until the late 2030s or 2040s.
