Passenger’s safety is govt’s top priority: Trivedi

Railway Minister Mr Dinesh Trivedi on Monday said that the government has accorded high priority to passenger's safety. Speaking at a Railway Award Function in New Delhi , he said that his Ministry is fully committed for the modernization of Railways to ensure security and safety of passengers.

Mr Trivedi said that his Ministry has also constituted a committee under the chairmanship of Sam Pitroda to suggest ways and means fro this purpose. He also said that his ministry is looking for development of various stations across the country with a view to upgrade the passengers amenities. He said that the initiatives will help generating revenues and provide employment to people.

Expressing concern about the accidents over the unmanned crossing levels, Mr Trivedi underlined the need for raising awareness among the people for which railways is taking steps for the purpose. Mr Trivedi said that his ministry is working towards increasing its network, dedicated freight corridors for connecting ports and other areas.

Ministers of State for Railways Mr K.H Muniappa and Bharat Singh Solanki also highlighted the achievements of Indian Railways on this occasion.

AIR Correspondent reports that a total of 269 Railways staffs were honoured with National Awards for Outstanding Services for the year 2011.
