Passenger safety top priority for the Railways: MoS Railways

The Minister of State for Railways Mr E Ahmed says passenger safety is a matter of top priority for the Railways and added that stringent action will be taken if lapses were found on the part of railway employees in this regard.Addressing a press conference in Kochi this evening, Mr Ahmed described yesterday's train accident in West Bengal as shocking and painful.He said Railways are continously taking several measures to ensure passenger saftey. The Minister said probe by the Kerala police into the cutting of brake pipes of a passenger train in Nilambur is going on in the right direction. The Minister said the Railways is considering a new alignment for the proposed Guruvayoor-Thirunavaya line.He said survey work on the railway line to Sabarimala will begin soon, as a fresh agreement was reached recently regarding its alignment.He said all efforts are being made to introduce the new trains announced in the budget, at the earliest.
