Party organization weak in UP: Sonia

The UPA chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi today said that weak party organisation in Uttar Pradesh led to the debacle in Assembly polls. She said that wrong choice of candidates was also one of the strong reasons.

She was talking to reporters after the meeting of Party General Secretaries and office bearers to discuss the outcome of the Assembly Elections in five States. Mrs. Gandhi, however, maintained that the results will not affect the UPA government at the Centre.

On Punjab, she said People's Party of Punjab, PPP factor affected the prospects of Congress party in the State.

Mrs Sonia Gandhi acknowledged that inflation could have been factor for Congress' poor performance at the hustings.

The Congress President said one of reasons for poor show in elections was wrong choice of candidates. She said party will pull up its socks in the coming Assembly polls to Gujarat, Karnataka and Himachal
